Sergeant Ricardo M. Preston was the leader of one of the United States Park Police SWAT Teams. He was highly respected by his team members for his determination, professionalism, skills, and steadiness during dangerous operations. Sergeant Preston died of apparent heart failure while participating in a training exercise with his team at Fort Meade, MD, on August 11, 1988.

Sergeant Preston was one of the original members of the United States Park Police Narcotics and Vice Unit. He did outstanding work as an undercover officer while assigned to the unit.

He was 37 years old and had served on the United States Park Police Park Police for 14 years.
