On January 28, 1933, at approximately 1:00 pm, Officer Grove was exiting Rock Creek Park onto Blagden Avenue NW when the Force motorcycle he was operating was struck from behind by a car.
Officer Grove was thrown from his bike and ca 60 feet down an embankment. He was transported to Walter Reed Army Hospital where he died a short time later from a fractured skull and internal injuries. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Edward M. Hall Jr., 23, and was charged with manslaughter. Two passengers were also charged.
Officer Grove was married and had eight children. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Officer Grove was buried at Arlington National Cemetery. He was a 10-year veteran of the Force.
