10/15/2024 – Muwekma Ohlone Tribe Protest on National Mall

On 10/15/2024, The Muwekma Ohlone Tribe arrived in Washington, DC, to protest for recognition of their tribe. They didn’t have the required permits to protest on the National Mall. Tribal members said they were going to ride their horses from the National Mall to the Department of Interior Building. Outside of designated areas, riding horses on National Park Service Property is prohibited by 36 CFR 2.16 unless authorized by the park superintendent. (See image 1, Below) The media reported 9 arrests, including one for assault on a police officer and the rest for interfering.
